MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY
USA Hockey calls all players 8 years old and under "Mites". The MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY program is for players that typically have 1 or 2 years of skating experience. There will be 2 practices (1 on the weekend and 1 on a weeknight) and 1 weekend cross ice game starting in mid-October and running through the end of February. Players will be divided into teams that are as competitively even as possible. Some cross ice games will be played against other nearby programs.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Children ages 5 and 8 who have 1 or 2 years of skating experience and who are not playing TRAVEL HOCKEY. For the 2019/20 season, that would be birth years 2011 through 2014.
WHAT MAKES MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY DIFFERENT THAN TRAVEL HOCKEY?
MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY plays a reduced game schedule (typically 1 game per weekend) and approximately 35-40 shared ice practices. TRAVEL HOCKEY requires the highest level of commitment and consists of an aggressive schedule of games, practices, and clinics, along with 2 tournaments.
The MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY season begins on October 12, 2019. The teams can be on the ice up to 3 times each week as follows:
- Saturday practice at 8:30am at Canterbury.
- Sunday practice or game at 10:15am or 2:15pm at The Gunnery.
- A weeknight practice at any of our home rinks (Canterbury, Gunnery, Rumsey Hall, South Kent)
** The exact schedule will be posted on the Northwest Icehawks website. Also, please note that some away games will be scheduled in place of the Saturday or Sunday home ice sessions. The times and dates for those games will be posted on the schedule throughout the season.
